theherohook: Can we PLEASE appreciate this shot. Emma is telling Hook about BELONGING in something. This whole episode we have seen him trying to have something to BELONG with. He wanted Bae as a sort of son, to raise him and have his ship be a HOME with Bae. And here we have Emma trying to convince him of being part of SOMETHING. And look what the camera is focused on. LOOK. You have Emma, Charming, then Snow and Henry. That’s a family right there. Something that he can see in Emma’s face. She has a family that she is FIGHTING for. This is something Hook wants. This whole episode there’s a confliction of fighting for himself or fighting for someone else. That’s why he leaves initially, the same reason that Emma left him at the top of the beanstalk. He doesn’t trust their plan, he doesn’t trust that it will work. So he runs. But ultimately, both the memory of Bae and that hurt and that desire to have SOMETHING along with Emma’s speech, brings him back. He turns around, puts his life at risk and comes back to help a FAMILY. He’s not thinking about the town, he’s thinking about Emma’s son - the son of Bae. He’s thinking about not letting Henry be alone like Bae.  Hell, Hook doesn’t even bat an eye when Emma tells him Henry got taken. He offers his ship right then and there. He lets his revenge drop and allows THE DARK ONE on his ship, without the threat of killing him. HE IS WORKING ALONG SIDE HIS 300 YEAR LONG ENEMY.  The past is gone, he can’t bring Milah back, he can’t bring Bae back. He sees this glimmer of hope. A bean, that was once a symbol of hope and possibility, that he thought was dried up dead and useless is not. He’s using a bean, he’s with Emma there ACTUALLY NO he came back.  He has a CHANCE at having a FAMILY. Of being PART OF SOMETHING.
